She began working with the ACOR Library part time in 2001, while she was still a student. She has experience in technical library services and she is a great help to Jordanian students who visit the library and are unfamilliar with the system and the resources available. Samya regularly interacts with Jordanian and international scholars and professionals in archaeology, cultural heritage, and library sciences.

Samya studied Library Information and Management Systems at the Jordan University (High Diploma 2010) and Cultural Resource Management at the Hashemite University (B.Sc. 2004).  She was awarded the ACOR Frederick-Wenger Memorial Fellowship in 2010. In 2011, Samya joined ACOR as a full-time staff and has become part of the core management team of the ACOR library. She has also had extensive training in archaeology practice and conservation science.

Samya is an integral member of ACOR Photo Archive Project team (2016 to present) as Project Coordinator for Metadata and Data Management. Samya’s expertise is in metadata standards (English and Arabic) and image uploads to Starchive, the content management system used for ACOR’s photo archive. In her role with the Photo Archive Project, Samya helps run annual Archival Methods workshops, and presents on metadata research methods.

Samya also supports ACOR’s communications in the Arabic language, in particular updating content in Arabic for the ACOR website and providing editorial supervision for ACOR’s Arabic-language social media content. In the past, Samya also shared her Arabic language expertise by working as a tutor for American students enrolled in the Critical Language Scholarship intensive summer Arabic language programs at ACOR between 2006 and 2012.
