Assistant Director Akemi Horii

Akemi Horii joined ACOR in 2018. Akemi administers and manages the ACOR Fellowship Program including the U.S. federal subgrants NEH and CAORC fellowships.  She also manages the ACOR website and electronic communications, supervises student internships, and supports organizational development, and strategic and outreach efforts. Akemi is thrilled to return to Jordan after participating in the Dhiban archaeological expedition in 2005, and she enjoys living in Amman with her family since Fall 2017.

Prior to ACOR, Akemi was a Department Coordinator of Near Eastern Languages & Civilizations for the University of Chicago, and a Project Coordinator for the University of Chicago Booth Business School.  She had worked as researcher and analyst in financial and technology sectors for several years before going back to graduate schools to pursue her academic passion in the Middle Eastern culture.  Akemi has a B.A. in Anthropology from San Francisco State University, an M.A. in Biblical Hebrew and Greek from Graduate Theological Union, and an M.Phil in Islamic Art and Archaeology from the University of Oxford.
